Week 13: Mi Vida en Panama🀌

Hello all my fans

This week was good and passed by really fast actually. Passed our finding goal πŸ’ͺ

There is a quote on my parents bathroom wall back home that says "one of the most important decisions we can make is to have a good attitude." I think an apostle said it or something.
I have thought about that quote a LOT these past few months.
Yes i miss my house, my family and friends, my phone, how happy and edified i feel after doom scrolling, and the mountains that i didnt appreciate enough, but i will have those things again. Right now im just trying my best to smile and take advantage of this time and this experience -think i do okay most of the time

A few happenings:
~Had to go to the city for Migrations, legal babyyyyπŸ™ŒπŸ™Œ saw a bunch of people from my mtc district i havent seen in a while which is always fun
~almost got our "magical eyes" poked out by some old lady on drugs. I thought she was cute
~i saw a stat a while ago saying over half of videos viewed on social media now are AI, and i think that is thanks to Panamanians. Without fail every single time i have seen someone scrolling youtube or instagram here, its been AI videos. And its always something really random like fruit-people cheating on each other or dogs working door dash
~had Intercambios this week with hma childs! She is so cool and taught me different ways I can search for answers for some of my doubts and questions
~Elder Renlund is coming to visit our mission in november and the people affected by the earthquakes. The ENTIRE mission is going to be all in one place to hear him speak specifically for us which is crazy and so fun
~its fun being a missionary sometimes because people are way less afraid to talk to us or holler. We had some people drive by screaming in english, "the church is true!!" But its also sus like when this other random dude stopped driving suddenly next to us, reached over and opened the back doors and said to get in and out of the rain. And as much as I wanted to hop into a strangers car in the dark of night we had to say noπŸ˜”
~I have a love/hate relationship with being a gringa in a world of latinos. We get a lot of attention which is nice for meeting people but we are also prime targets for getting scammed. I am still beefing with our bus driver from Saturday- bro lost me 50 cents

I learn tons of new vocabulary every day but I fear i must have short term memory loss or something because i cant remember ANYTHING
But i have found that a lot of the words i do remember, is because i had an emberassing experience saying it wrong. Like trauma-rememberance.
They havent been necessarily bad mistakes- just awkward
Like when i told 40 teenagers in a devotional they could have much congratulations by following the prophet. Or when I asked a new friend for his last name and he said "Luis apellido FernΓ‘ndez" and i went about the rest of the day not knowing "apellido" means "last name" and wasn't part of his name. Or when i asked our cute 10 year old recent convert natylie which country the bathroom was in.
Emberassing, but at least im learning from my mistakes 🀷🏼‍♀️

Earlier this week we finished the night off with FHE with a family of some recent converts. Hma Fernando and i had visited them a few times before and the kids would always come up and ask for stickers so i felt like we were pretty tight. But that night when we arrived, hma Boyle introduced herself and then the mom looked to me and asked where hma Fernando went. After i answered she asked, "and the other chica?"
Other chica?? We didnt know who she was talking about because its been a solid 6 or 7 weeks since i replaced the missionary before me. Seeing our confusion the mom said, "no the girl who didnt know any spanish?"
Oh yeah. That would be me. Nice
I guess i look a lot different than 2 weeks ago because she did not recodnize me rip (her kids did tho πŸ’ͺ)

We got 2 fetchas (people on date for baptism)!! So basically on hma Boyles first Sunday here, a lady in the ward came up to us and said she wanted us to visit her daughter in law. I was a little bit surprised honestly because there have been missionaries assigned to this ward for years, so why now? Especially why us? Because she knew we were both brand new and barely speak spanish so that's kinda risky.
She also doesn't smile or laugh so I am a wee bit scared of her
But i guess something told her to ask us, so yesterday we went with her to the house.  We met Marlim and answered her questions about the plan of salvation- like why we are here and what happens after death. I got a little bit distracted looking at a dog when I heard hma Boyle ask if she would follow the example of Jesus christ and be baptized.
The way my eyes shot open. I kept a straight face other than that, but still.
But I was not expecting that
Neither of us had ever successfully extended a baptism invite and doing our first one on a reference/family member of a ward member seemed risky.
Welp goodbye all future ward references
But then Marlim said yes! Her and her son are on date for november 15
Hma Boyle told me later that she wasn't planning on it either, but kept feeling the prompting in her gut that she needed to extend the invitation, and despite the risk, she followed it and it all turned out okay
Marlin has a few road blocks but we are praying for her! πŸ™

So that was a good way to end a lowkey unsuccessful weekend

I love you all! Send me emails and god bless

Hma wride πŸ’ž
